The Nature of Man

Anthropological questions are widely discussed in philosophy once more, with neo-Aristotelian and neo-Kantian approaches dominating. In his new book, Daniel Martin Feige develops an alternative proposal that approaches the question of the human being from the perspective of Hegelian philosophy and Critical Theory. Man is that living being which makes itself what it understands itself to be. In the spirit of Hegel, the anthropological question is thereby linked with the philosophy of history. Man is thus revealed as a living being characterised by freedom, reason and self-consciousness – basic determinations that must be renegotiated in every historical epoch.
