World Premiere at the 2024 Berlinale

For her new feature film Treasure, based on Lily Brett’s novel Too Many Men (published in German by Suhrkamp as Zu viele Männer), director Julia von Heinz (Hannah’s Journey, And Tomorrow the Entire World) has secured a star cast, with Lena Dunham playing the New York businesswoman Ruth Rothwax and Stephen Fry as her father Edek in the leading roles, in what will be the first English-language film by the German filmmaker. Both book and film tell the story of a special father-daughter relationship. Ruth travels with her father, Edek, a Holocaust survivor, to the place of his birth in Poland. A journey back through time that hurls both protagonists into extreme situations.

Shooting took place in the spring of 2023 in Germany and Poland. The head producer was Fabian Gasmia from the Berlin-based production firm Seven Elephants, of which Julia von Heinz is also a part. The screenplay was adapted from Lily Brett’s successful novel by Julia von Heinz and John Quester. Brett served as a story advisor for the screenplay adaptation. The film, which was originally going to be released under the title Iron Box, will premiere as part of the section “Berlinale Special 2024”.
