We are delighted to share that Anna Kim and Robert Menasse have been selected for the longlist of the Austrian Book Prize 2022 with their novels Story of a Child and Enlargement. The longlist comprises ten books by Austrian authors published between October 8, 2021 and October 11, 2022.

Furthermore, Sirka Elspaß's collection of poetry i am blow-drying my lashes has been shortlisted for the debut prize.

The shortlist for the main prize will be announced on October 11 and the winner on November 21, 2022. The winner will receive 20,000 Euro; the debut prize is endowed with 10,000 Euro.

Anna Kim was born in Daejeon, South Korea, in 1977. In 1979 her family moved to Germany and then to Vienna, Austria, where she also lives today. She has received numerous prizes and fellowships for her belletristic and essayistic work, including the European Union Prize for Literature.

Robert Menasse was born in Vienna in 1954. He studied German philology, philosophy and political science in Vienna, Salzburg and Messina and received his PhD in 1980 with a thesis on the character of the outsider in literature. Menasse then spent six years at the University of São Paulo, first as a lecturer for Austrian literature, then as a guest lecturer at the Institute for Literary Theory, where he gave lectures on philosophical and aesthetic theories, including on Hegel, Lukács, Benjamin and Adorno. Since his return from Brazil in 1988, Robert Menasse has been a writer and essayist based mainly in Vienna.

Sirka Elspaß, born in Oberhausen in 1995, studied creative writing and cultural journalism in Hildesheim and language arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (under Monika Rinck, among others). She was a prize-winner at the Treffen junger Autor:innen 2010 & 2012 and postpoetry-Nachwuchspreisträgerin 2013, she co-edited the magazine BELLA triste (no. 41-45) and has published her work in various magazines and anthologies, including STILL, Edit and Lyrik von Jetzt 3. The collection of poetry ich föhne mir meine wimpern is her debut.
