Christoph Menke has been shortlisted for the Tractatus-Preis for Philosophical Essay Writing 2023 with A Theory of Liberation.

The press statement on the intention of the prize given by Konrad Paul Liessmann, the academic director of the Philosophicum Lech, states: »The prize is awarded to exceptional essays or works of essayistic non-fiction that discuss philosophical questions in a way that makes them accessible to a wider public and that make a contribution to a debate of philosophical questions that isn't merely technical. Special consideration is given to the originality of the approach, the execution of stylistic form as well as the relevance of the topic.«

Since 2009, the Philosophicum Lech Association has honoured outstanding publications in the field of philosophical and cultural essay writing with the Tractatus-Preis. The award was established at the suggestion of writer Michael Köhlmeier in order to give greater recognition to remarkable contributions to the increasingly important field of intellectual debate and positioning. Endowed with 25,000 Euro, the award is considered one of the most prestigious in its field in the German-speaking world. This year's winner will be announced on September 6, 2023.
