We are delighted to announce that Maja Haderlap und Clemens J. Setz have been nominated for the Austrian Book Prize, for their novels Women at Night and Moons before Landing. The 2023 Prize is jointly administered by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service, and Sport, the Hauptverband des Österreichischen Buchhandels, and the Arbeiterkammer Wien.

The Austrian Book Prize serves to recognize the quality and independence of Austrian literature, and to raise its profile throughout German-speaking world. The winner of the Austrian Book Prize receives EUR 20,000. The shortlist is set to be announced on October 10, 2023, with the award ceremony to take place on November 6, 2023. The decision will be made by an independent panel of expert judges.

Maja Haderlap was born in Bad Eisenkappel / Železna Kapla (Carinthia, Austria). After reading theatre studies and German philology, she was a lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt and head dramaturg at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt for many years. She has published poetry in Slovenian before being awarded the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Preis 2011 for an excerpt from her subsequent German debut novel Engel des Vergessens. Further renowned prizes followed, including the Max Frisch-Preis 2018 and the Christine Lavant Preis 2021.
