In this episode of Dichtung & Wahrheit, Laura De Weck’s guest is Axel Honneth. Her conversation with the social philosopher explores how working conditions and social recognition influence our political decision-making process – and what would need to change for democracy to become something that everyone can experience. In addition, Honneth talks about the personal reasons that lead him to the central themes of his works, »recognition« and »shame« and what role rock music played in his own politicization.
Axel Honneth is one of the most important members of the third generation of the Frankfurt School. He was also the director of the Institute for Social Research at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main between 2001 and 2018. Currently, he is Jack C. Weinstein Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University in New York.
