For one year now, Russia has been waging its merciless war against Ukraine. Through the crucial international media coverage and the renewed focus on this region, the literature of Ukrainian authors, too, is receiving great attention – and with it the books in which the conflicts have been anticipated and described for years.

In the second episode of our new podcast Dichtung & Wahrheit, Laura de Weck talks to edior Katharina Raabe. She has been responsible for Suhrkamp's Central and Eastern European literary programme for twenty-two years. For her work as a »literary ambassador« Katharina Raabe was been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2022.

In the podcast, she talks about how the reception of Eastern European texts has changed since the beginning of the war and about the cliché that the literature from the region was always sombre, heavy and too focused on history.
