Suhrkamp author Sirka Elspaß has been awarded the prize for best debut collection in the city of Wiesbaden’s Lyrikpreis Orphil 2024 for her collection i am blow-drying my lashes.

The jury remarked about the book: »Elspaß’s poems are impressive because they are not just relentlessly clear and admirably incisive, they also balance their heaviness with a finely wrought sense of humour. When contemporary poetry develops a tone that is this impressively intelligent and succinct, it can also open up a poetic future.«

The award ceremony will be held at Literaturhaus Villa Clementine in Wiesbaden on Wednesday 5 June 2024. The prize is sponsored by Ilse Konell, the widow of the poet George Konell, who lived in Wiesbaden for many years before passing away in 1991. Eslpaß receives a cash prize of €2,500.
