Munich, 1922. Inflation is galloping due to the reparation demands placed on Germany, the French Legation comes under attack, and members of the recently prohibited Freikorps are pillaging and plundering in the city. Nevertheless, life could be pretty good for Inspector Reitmeyer – his relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Caroline, is on the mend. But his investigation into ex-soldiers gone to seed and dubious Russian ladies are proving to be more difficult than expected – particularly when his suspicion that his worst enemy is a member of his own ranks seem corroborated.
