Beitrag zu New Film Project Based on Berlin Heat by Johannes Groschupf
A Cologne-based production company has acquired the films rights to Johannes Groschupf’s thriller Berlin Heat. Winner of the 2021 German Crime Fiction Prize, Berlin Heat tells the story of Tom Lohoff, a real estate agent with a gambling problem who is constantly getting himself into sticky situations, including inadvertantly gettiing tangled up in the staged kidnapping of a neo-Nazi politician. Groschupf tells the story of a lovable lady’s man and loser who over the course of the turbulent events of the plot goes from an antihero to a veritable hero – culminating in a showdown at the site of the Führerbunker, in a desperate effort to prevent a terror attack.

Johannes Groschupf, born in 1963, worked as an independent travel journalist for many years. In 1994, he survived a helicopter crash in the Sahara. Based on this experience, 1998 saw the creation of the award-winning radio feature Der Absturz (»The Crash«). After that, he focused on literary works, first and foremost in the field of YA literature, before turning to suspense writing. He was awarded the German Crime Fiction Prize for all three of his thrillers Berlin Preppers, Berlin Heat and Hyaenas.
